It was 2007 and Olivia Wilde had just been cast as a bisexual doc on “House,” a juicy role on a hit show following a run on the short-lived NBC series “The Black Donnellys” and another bisexual turn on “The O.C.” The job was a huge break for the actress — it would lead to a vastly raised public profile and the top spot in the Maxim Hot 100 — but the new work also came at a tricky time: She was about to start filming “Fix,” a movie she couldn’t exactly bail on considering her husband, Tao Ruspoli, was the director.

“I would do ‘House’ five days a week and we would do ‘Fix’ on the weekend and any random day off I might get,” Wilde told MTV News. “It was a true labor of love, guerilla effort because we had to go shoot ‘Fix’ whenever we could, which meant that I was exhausted most of the time. It was an amazing, herculean effort, but we pulled it off.”

In theaters on Friday (November 20), “Fix” is shot as a faux-documentary in which Bella (Wilde) and Milo (Ruspoli) trek across Los Angeles in a treacherous effort to get Milo’s heroin-addicted brother (Shawn Andrews, Pickford of “Dazed and Confused” fame) into rehab before he misses a court-ordered deadline and ends up in the slammer. The idea was based on Wilde’s suggestion that they create a film around Ruspoli’s charismatic real-life brother.

“I said, ‘Is there one day in his life that you can remember that might make a great movie?’ ” Wilde explained. “And [Tao] said, ‘Yeah, there’s one day.’ And it was this day that really happened.”

Despite the tight filming schedule, Wilde refused to give up the opportunity to work with her husband. “What makes a great relationship is when you really admire and respect the other person and when you can be inspired by them, and if you create something together, those are some of the most magical times in a relationship,” she said. “If you can work on anything together, you can really appreciate the gifts the person has to offer.”
